Motivation for Stoa Debate

The heart is what pumps lifeblood throughout the body; it is the source of life in our physical bodies. In Stoa debate, it is what motivates us to train students. We want our students to understand and speak the truth of the gospel in love to a lost and dying world.

In Ephesians 4:14-15 we learn, "that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ."

There are three components to this idea: Competence: Learning to present well-researched arguments with logical reasoning, support, critical thinking, and analysis. Character: Building godly character that responds with respect and politeness and accepts outcomes graciously. Courage: Willingness to stand up courageously in the face of opposition with Truth. Competence gives students the skill, character determines how it is accomplished, and courage ensures that they take action.

In essence, Stoa Debate is teaching students to communicate clearly and winsomely with supported, well-reasoned ideas courageously in the face of opposition for the cause of Christ. Speak boldly. Change the world for Christ.
