Worth It!: When Parents Judge - It’s Worth it!
Dedicated parent judges are one of the most important ingredients for a successful Stoa tournament. When parents come prepared to judge, tournaments run on time, and our students receive the feedback they need to grow as communicators. Simply put, we accomplish our mission to train students to speak boldly and change the world for Christ with the active involvement of parents as judges. When parents judge, their efforts are not unrewarded. By judging consistently, parents deepen their understanding of speech and debate, which in turn helps them support their own children’s growth as communicators. Additionally, judging gives parents the opportunity to observe more experienced students in action, offering both inspiration and encouragement for the future.A common concern among parents is the belief that they are not knowledgeable enough to judge. This assumption is incorrect. Our tournaments are designed to feature a wide range of judges, from those with no prior experience to seasoned debate experts. Students must be prepared to communicate with all types of judges, which reflects the real-world scenarios we are preparing them for. This video featuring alumni and parent insights highlights all the great things that happen when parents judge. You can watch it here. When you are at your next tournament, grab those ballots: It’s Worth It!
