THE VOTE IS OFFICIAL!
In this year’s Stoa spring member vote, the membership voted on a new wild Card speech event, new Lincoln Douglas Value Debate Resolution and a new Team Policy Debate Resolution for the 2017-2018 competitive year.
In the Wild Card speech tally, Demonstrative Speech was the winner with 193 votes. After Dinner Speaking garnered 188.
Lincoln-Douglas saw three resolutions with members ranking them in order of preference. The lowest number of the rankings won for the coming year. Winning was resolution #2 – Resolved: Preemptive warfare is morally justified with a ranking vote of 585. Coming in second with 697 ranking votes was resolution #3 – Resolved: The United States ought to value economic isolationism over globalism and third was resolution #1 – Resolved: In the United States, executive agencies undervalue due process with 838 ranking votes.
Team policy’s winner was resolution #1 – Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reform its transportation policy with a ranking of 664. Not far behind in second was resolution #2 – The United States federal government should substantially reform its labor law with 702 and third was resolution #3 – The United States federal government should substantially reform its monetary policy with 804. Again in these rankings, the low number is the winner.
The Stoa Board of Directors will have three new board members for the coming year: Maggie Carabelos, Greg DeJager, and Mike Winther.
